FAQs | salary expectations
How much can I expect to make in product?
Many folks new to product or who have been struggling to work their way up the product ladder ask us, what kind of salary can I expect. It varies. Sadly, even if you love a company, putting all your eggs in one basket will cost you when it comes to salaries.
FOMO - All companies seem to use other offers as a signal that they were right in wanting you in the first place. It drives up your value.
As someone who worked at a small business, I feel guilty about dragging a small company through the wringer if I know I want a big gun. But I have been hurt on the salary front because of my honesty/ethics and lack of a competing offer. I highly recommend you talk to other people and check Levels.fyi.
Levels.fyi
Take the information with a grain of salt, but I have found it to be fairly accurate.
the lower bounds
There are some outliers, both on the low end and the high-end. It has been my experience that low end numbers are honest, some people have really been underpaid for some good and some bad reasons.
the upper bounds
The upper bounds can be (1) extensive years at a company (2) skyrocketing stock having nothing to do with skill level and (3) highly technical background really in demand.
contribute
Levels.fyi will ask you to contribute information about your current job and salary. If you use it, please think to contribute. It is a crowd sourced initiative that helps us all help one another.
