So many candidates who come to me are worried about getting specific about users and approaches. They are worried about probing questions from their interviewers.

The list of techniques includes:

  • Reach out to friends and collegues

  • Reach out to targeted strangers

  • Go where your users hang out

  • Enlist Influencers

  • Get Press

  • Viral Content

  • Physical Placement

Note: This advice is for greenfield prompts. Think: You are a CEO of a startup in X space, what would you build.

This doesn’t work for improvement prompts. Think: Companies working at scale, like Spotify or Netflix. For those prompts they are looking for signals that you can work at scale and pick users they can really reach and impact.
