Strategy Drills: A Sample

Here is an example of a strategy drill.

Prompt: What are some challenges in data privacy?

Use the rule of three + one. (The human brain remembers 4 things so one extra on the rule of three will not hurt, and in this case, it goes a long way.)

  • Regulation

  • Consumers

  • Business Model Complexity

  • Cyber Threats

With these four things listed, I can now riff.

  • Regulators

    • US vs. EU different but equally vigilant

    • Don’t know what they are doing

    • Most regulation backfires

    • Most regulation creates new complications

  • Consumers

    • Don’t know what they don’t know

    • Get overwhelmed and behave rationally but create more problems

      • simple passwords

      • writing passwords on sticky notes

    • Not there problems when tech solutions are overly complicated

  • Business Model Complexity

    • Regulations make it difficult for small businesses

    • Well-intentioned solutions drive people out of business

    • Only the big guys can afford requirements

  • Cyber Threats

    • Biggest threats are with Health & Gov’t

    • Those most at threat can’t afford the experts

    • Newest forms of warfar

What I did here is finds 4 themes and then riffed on them. Try it at home.
