Resume Advice: Quantifying Your Accomplishments

There are a ton of blogs on the topic, but I am going to keep it simple. When you think about writing resume lines, there are two core concepts around your quantifications: (1) what did you accoplish and (2) context.

For what did I accomplish, ask yourself:

  1. Did I make make the company money?

  2. Did I save the company money (cut costs)?

  3. Did I contribute to specific company goals?

  4. Did I increase productivity?

  5. Did I increase customer retention?

  6. Which KPIs did I own? How did we do against them?

For context:

  1. Grew X metric from X to Y, a Z% increase

  2. $XXM increase in Y over X months

If you are blocked, try thinking of your S.T.A.R. stories. Or put another way: What was the

  1. Challenge (i.e. increase engagement or help Musicians be found)

  2. Action (i.e. Built X feature)

  3. Result (i.e. Increased # of sessions per day by X%)

Any of those three triggers can help you think up resume lines that should sound a lot like S.M.A.R.T. goals. .

For example:

  1. Increased customer engagement from X to Y a YoY increase of Z% by introducing A.

  2. Drove reduction in “ABC metric” as a percent of total “ABC metric” changes from X% to Y% a YoY increase of Zbps.
