A question bank for Meta/Facebook Product Management Execution Interviews: a list of Product Manager Interview questions asked at Meta, Facebook, Instagram, etc. during the execution round that is focused on Root Cause Analysis

Root Cause Analysis

One of three types of execution prompts, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) prompts can be standalone or tacked on to the end of another type of question, like success metrics. To learn more about the methodologies for answering them, check out this article.

You will notice three common patterns:

  • Something is up or down

  • One metric is up vs Another metric down

  • Timing of drop (i.e. overnight)

Here is a list of crowd sourced prompts:

  • You are PM of FB Login used by 3rd parties and you notice the successful logins metric is down on a Monday morning, what will you do?

  • You are PM of FB Events and you saw an overnight drop in RSVPs by 10%. How would you go about determining what happened?

  • You're the PM for the Facebook Like feature. Like acceptance is down 5%, what do you do?

  • You're the PM of Facebook Birthdays. Birthday greetings drop one day - what do you do?
