Do’s and Don’ts of Metrics Creation
For execution case questions, you need to measure your product. Most people get it wrong. Here is a quick list of some Do’s and Don’ts.
Don’t
Give a vague description (i.e. I would measure what happens in the product)
Use Percentages for North Stars
Over complicated your metric
Use CSAT or other qualitative metric unless aboslutely necessary
Do:
Include a count (think # of X)
Avoid averages unless absolutely necessary
Be specific (total queries is better than overall volume — I need to know how you measure volume)
Keep it simple. If the metric is getting complicated, consider a proxy metric.
