day 1

task | clarifying assumption

Pick a prompt you would be comfortable working with. For ideas, grab the latest from Lewis Lin.

You are going to spend 5 minutes a day with this prompt for 7 days.

For day 1, just spend 5 minutes trying to come up with clarifying assumptions.

Set a timer, make sure you don’t go over. In a real interview, you want to do it faster, but this gives you extra time, but not too much extra to practice.

why | short practice + timing

this gives you something to do every day to think about interviews, without over thinking.

hint | help getting started

Pick a prompt for a company on your target list.

For clarifying assumptions, there are two approaches.

  1. Ask roughly 3 questions in the form of an assumption you are comfortable taking, but are just double-checking the interviewer’s preferences.

  2. Make assumptions. State them with confidence and get ready to move forward.

NOTE: I prefer the first approach, but many others prefer the assumptions as clear statements.
