day 11
type | user segmentation
If given the prompt: Imagine you are the PM at Airbnb, what would you improve and how?
Try two different approaches for user segmentation (1) one broad and (2) the other super-specific. Decide which approach works best for you and why.
why | approaches can backfire
We run into problems with user segmentation, sometimes going too narrow (super-specific) with user groups, which means we walk through super-specific users only to end up with pain points and a solution that works for all of them.
On the flip side, if the user groups are too broad, the user journey is too difficult to follow, or it has too many tangents as you try to solve for everyone.
hint | ask yourself
Why doesn’t everyone have this problem?
Test out listing pain points.
If you find you are unfocused, you have picked something too broad.
If you struggle to justify user pain points that are unique to the prioritized user group, you have fallen into the super-specific user trap.
