Job Listing Sites

I am starting to hear about a number of job boards (for tech) that exist outside the standards. Here is a list of job boards.

Otta

  • Pro: some find it more personalized

  • Pro: Asks about what you want to better filter roles

  • Pro: Easier way to save jobs you like. Reminds me of a data app

  • Con: They ask you to upload your profile via LinkedIn but they require a download of a PDF and they import only titles and dates, you have to manually add everything else yourself. Plan for about an hour to import resume details. This is a really big con.

Built In

  • Pro: sorts by job categories

  • Pro: LIke Otta, they ask some key questions in an attempt to personalize the experience. And they actually have sub-categories for some of the preferences so I get a better understanding of what they mean (Otta didn’t have that.)

  • Con: The option for more jobs from a company is understated, took me a while to see it.

  • Con: The design is too busy, they attempt to share information in an easy-to-digest way but there are too many different design elements on the page and repetitive elements that make it hard to know where to focus.

LinkedIn

  • Pro: Easy Apply is helpful

  • Con: If you use an Alumni email, Gmail sends your application confirmations to Spam.

  • Con: Sometimes you don’t get an email confirmation of a rapid application.

Indeed

  • Pro: Massive Database

  • Cons: Lot’s of dead jobs

Glassdoor

  • Pro: Easy to apply when researching companies and common questions

  • Con: Not very comprehensive.

  • Con: Glassdoor makes you write login and/or write reviews to get details at uncomfortable moments

Ladders:

  • Pro: Discovery/Search by location, company, and titles

  • Con: No good sort for Product Manager Roles

Dice

  • Pro: Focus on tech

  • Con: Still testing out

Notes:

  • There will be a lot of overlap of listings across platforms, mostly you will find a job board more helpful based on how you discover roles.

  • Don’t trust the last updated dates, most of the job boards change those based on last scrape not on hiring manager changes.
