Goals in Simple Language

This is part of a series of articles breaking down the topic of creating goals during a product sense or product design case interview. Many people confuse goals for a case with S.M.A.R.T. goals or metrics. In a case interview, focus on the problem in simple language.

We have talked about what not to do when setting a goal:

  • No Buzzwords

  • No Metrics

The best trick I have found is thinking like a user NOT a product manager. If you asked your mom or a kid to describe a problem, how would they word it. That is essentially the answer you are looking for. Word your answer in terms they can understand. If will help you avoid both metrics and buzz words.
